Meet the Team

Our team may be small, but we are mighty! Find out a little more about our owner/veterinarian and our technician.

Dr. Cheryl Malin

Coming from an RCMP family I was raised all over Saskatchewan. Having grown up in town, my parents always joked that farming was genetic - I was absolutely and completely horse (and animal) crazy from a young age. To this day I still point out all the horses on a drive! When I finished high school I attended Brandon University. It was there that I got my Bachelor of Science degree. I then attended Assinaboine Community College obtaining a certificate in organic farming. I then began veterinary school at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. After vet school I interned at the vet college in Saskatoon in large animal internal medicine. In the time since I graduated I completed courses through Chi University to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.

After my internship I moved to Stettler, where I enjoyed 7 years in mixed animal practice, focusing on equine medicine. From there I moved to Delaney Veterinary Services in Sherwood Park, which allowed me to expand my knowledge and hone my skills. Now I am happy to offer high quality services to you in a setting that your horses are comfortable with. My goal is to help make horse ownership as rewarding as it can be. I want to help you meet, and even exceed, your goals with your horses.

Outside of work I own and operate High Horse Cookie Company and I enjoy photography, travelling and spending time with my husband, Colin. Most of all I enjoy spending time with my animals and showing Lily in reining. We have 2 dogs (Tater and Watson), 2 cats (Taco and Salsa) and 4 horses (Kokanee, Lily, Remington and Pippin).

Melissa is the other half of the team that makes up Align Equine Veterinary Services. She was raised on her family’s beef and grain farm outside Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Between helping her dad and grandpa on the farm and participating in her local equine 4-H club she was always surrounded by animals of all sizes and species. Before, and during, her post-secondary education Melissa had many opportunities to volunteer and work in various mixed animal veterinary practices across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Melissa graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College in 2018. After college she worked at Stettler Veterinary Clinic for 3 years where she met Dr. Cheryl Malin. Melissa soon discovered that as much as she has a heart for all animals, horses held a special place for her. In July 2021 Melissa had the opportunity to take a position at Delaney Veterinary Services before joining Dr. Malin at Align Equine Veterinary Services. At Delaney Veterinary Services Melissa was able to further immerse herself into an equine specific work environment.

When Melissa isn’t working she can be found spending time with her dog Cricket, visiting with friends and family, playing games, out riding horses, and enjoying drama/musical theater. She enjoys traveling and has visited places such as California, Cuba, Maui, and Bangladesh and hopes to add many more to that list soon.
